I have owned a pair of Grado 125's for the past 11 years and they really are exceptionally nice sounding.

I often use them for watching movies on Utube or listening to music through the phonejack of my
Dell Inspiron netbook. After more than a decade the only items that I have had to replace on the Grado 125's are the headphone pads which were replaced with an inexpensive aftermarket pair of pads. These pads are less expensive than Grado's and far more comfortable.

I don't know why Grado doesn't replace the ear pads they sell their headphones with, with pads
that are softer, since the softer pads greatly ehance the Grado's excellent sonic performance.

hey mike do you feel better now that you tried to belittle this man and his years in the industry. grow up if you were good at it you would be doing what he does so sit back and let the experts listen and you listen to them and quit trying to educate.

This cannot be a REAL speaker review without even considering JBL-890's! Bang for the buck and if you want pretty living room stuff; the L890CH for $1400(or less)/pair off of Amazon.

purcased 1.6's in 2001. In 2006 voice coils came unglued from the speaker causing fuzzy sound. Called Magnepan and said this sometime occurs every years and that cost of the repair would be approximately $407+ dollars including shipping. Being upset, I declined and bought another brand. Very good speakers, but not the value others seem to think if this happens often. Was terribly displeased with what happened, especially since I yearned and saved for them for so long and owned them for only a short time. Did not want to keep them for this to happen again in another 5 years after the repair.

Sennheiser PX100 breaks too easily, wires flimsy. Sound is a bit brittle in the top range, but sweet overall like all Senn.s.
Grados sound great but are all uncomfortable. Not sure if they can be powered by an iPad.
Koss PortaPro is superb with an iPad. Sound is loud and excellent, and it is resilient enough not to break too easily from portable use and is fully warranteed if it does break.

If you don't need an earbud/earcanal phone, go with PortaPro.

Hi William -

Yep you got me on this one! Good catch and thanks for posting. It appears I did let the spell check do too much.

Things have been corrected.
