Yamaha’s New Micro MCR-140

Yamaha has an iPod dock with some flare.  The MCR-140 has a CD player, USB port, a AirWired dock for the ipod and cradle and 2 small 15W speakers.  The little gizmo is very good looking and would probably make a great gift for the kids or someone in an office. It even has a 1/8th inch headphone jack.

I own not only the Yamaha HTR-5280 Natural Sound 5 channel receiver but also a step or two upwards in model in a Pioneer receiver and a Denon as well. In comparison the Denon for example offers no bass & treble manual adjustments nor anything else that allows you to do anything short of wondering how their unit can be returned. I am using it now with an equalizer otherwise it would be worthless to me.

I love my older model Pioneer as it is super powerful and the first theater model I have owned. The Pioneer is the worst as for frequency output. Even with manual access to bass & treble it is still not able to be adjusted to sound good on it’s own and cumulatively it’s a piece of junk.

My big question here is why? Don’t these big-time manufacturers have the ability to listen to what they are producing before marketing? Mind you I could design speakers that are perfectly matched to either of my lesser receivers but again why? Nearly no one has the ability I have so again why didn’t they setup these systems with varying speaker packages and find a setting that best accommodated most of them and hey what if they were adjustable to accommodate anything hooked up to them. No such luck here until I finally found and bought one of my life long dreams come true in a nice good quality Yamaha home receiver in the 5280.

This receiver is most versatile in ability and puts all others under the table as for sounding good no matter how or what i connect to it as for components and/or speakers. I am about to buy my second Yamaha HTR-5760 Receiver. Why you may ask yourself would a guy if he’s telling the truth that already has three high power amplifiers be looking into buying a fourth large high power 7 channel receiver? Because I used to think linearly. One amp was enough for anyone and what you have is what you are locked into working with. Not anymore for me. I have speakers that can handle all seven channels within two cabinets and I have quite a few others that are able to consume as many channels as I can grasp to fill the room with the fullest rich sounding audio one could ever hope for and the ability to fine tune is over the top when you don’t close your mind to working with only one receiver.

Believe it or not my Denon receiver will be given to one of my children and the Pioneer is used for the kids TV and video games. Only the Yamaha receivers will be used where I listen to audio both video and music. Mind you I haven’t mentioned a word regarding anything specific I appreciate about this receiver. For this review I have chosen to only speak of whole news. Whether to own one of these or not to begin with.

If you make the mistakes I have in buying any of the lower brand names such as Denon or Pioneer you will forever be comparing them to the best in Yamaha and if you never own a Yamaha natural Sound Receiver you will never know how good audio can sound for too as well. if that isn’t enough for you than I suggest you follow my example and find out the hard and expensive way how to accumulate equipment that simply dies in comparison to the Natural Sound of Yamaha.

PS: For the record: I don’t work for Yamaha. I’m not filthy rich. The last two receivers I have bought I bought one through Craig’s list here in Portland, OR and the other I bought through E-Bay. The Pioneer I paid a small fortune for directly through a department store that specializes in high end audio equipment.. Thanks for your ear, Tony ….

I don’t usually write reviews on audio products that goes through my room, either good or bad, but I am going out of my way to write this review since I feel this speakers is something special. I said special because for it’s price, I believe this is truly one of the very rare audio products that can really be regarded as “bang for the buck”.

At first, I was hesitant to get this model since my objective is to use it for pure 2ch audio music listening, since this model was labeled by Yamaha as a home theater speakers. But apparently my budget left me with no choice and since I saw the reviews here which hinted me that this can be good also for music.

Well and behold! After a few weeks of breaking in, I am pleasantly surprised with the speakers performance! As described by other reviewers here, the music spectrum is well balanced with smoothness, refinement, detail, and honestly accurate deep bass. I am a long time self proclaimed audiophile with some experience with other hi end mega buck speakers but believe you me, this NS-555 can compete. Though not as truly complete as some of the hi end speakers but certainly for it’s price, this is a no brainer choice.

Many of my friends pass up this speakers since the brand is not to famous on audiophile circles but one’s they heard my system (with only mid fi gears), they were truly astounded! Add to the performance is the very hi end look and finish. Many audiophile brands has this finish too but at 10X the price.

Out of curiosity, I look inside this speakers and saw why this speakers sound so good. No wonder, the raw drivers used were of high quality with good size magnets and exotic materials. The inside baffles were braced very well and damp at the right places. Even the passive crossover were handmade with air core inductors, though the caps can use some upgrade (which means the speaker can get even better!).

As you can now imagine, I love this speakers simply because a got a whole lot of quality for the small price I paid. Also, I am for the underdogs, and surely this very underrated speakers are special. Do audition one if you can and thank me later. Thanks

Yamaha’s new neoHD is so Simple you’d think it was a Mac.

Yamaha is introducing the newHD media controller.  Is it the ease of a Mac in a Home Theater in a Box?  Or maybe it is your grand parents new favorite toy.  Turn on the neoHD and it powers up the TV to display a simple menu of “Watch, Listen, Play”. Select “Watch” from there the simple and clean menu promps for “Watch Movie, Watch LiveTV,” and so on.  Plus the remote looks rather simple, good button size and to the point.  Yamaha might be getting some AARP props… It does appear though that with the ability to add WiFi, play sources from a laptop, speakers vs room acoustic set up software, and so on and so forth.  The grand kids might still have to set the dang thing up.

BUENA PARK, Calif.––Yamaha Electronics Corporation, the innovator in home theater and digital audio and video reproduction, today ushers in the future of home entertainment with the introduction of neoHD. These sophisticated Media Controllers provide the HD audio and video performance essential to true HD entertainment experiences and total control of all home and Internet components and sources connected to a home AV system. Using a simple remote to drive an intuitive menu-driven on-screen display, neoHD makes it easier than ever before to navigate and access all audio and video content in the home, regardless of where it is stored.

Upon touching the power button of the neoHD remote, the Media Controller and connected TV automatically power up and give the user three onscreen entertainment choices: “Watch,” “Listen,” or “Play.” Next, the user is prompted to choose among more specific activities (such as Watch Movie, Watch LiveTV, Listen CD, etc) at which time icons for the appropriate video, audio or video game components (such as Blu-ray players, CD players, cable boxes, iPods, game consoles, etc.) will appear. Once the component is selected, it automatically powers on and is fully operational via the neoHD remote and on-screen interface. All individual component remotes that normally clutter the room can be kept out of sight in a drawer.

neoHD can control up to six other AV components, such as TVs, Blu-ray disc players and set-top boxes, through its remote control and three IR outputs on the Media Controller’s back panel. Remote control codes for the AV components (including TVs, DVD and Blu-ray players, VCRs, set-top boxes, etc.) from most manufacturers are embedded into the neoHD Media Controller for immediate compatibility and control. The codes for components that are not embedded can be quickly learned by the Media Controller.

neoHD is available in a variety of configurations, including neoHD (YMC-500), neoHD WiFi (YMC-700) with WiFi/Ethernet compatibility, and the neoHD System 2.1 (YMC-S21), a complete surround sound and system control solution that matches the YMC-500 Media Controller with two high-quality speakers and a subwoofer.

Both neoHD models feature HD quality audio playback (Dolby TrueHD) and three HDMI inputs for connecting HD AV sources, such as a Blu-ray player, digital set-top box or Apple TV. Also provided are two component video inputs for game consoles and DVRs, such as Tivo, and single composite video inputs for a VCR. The YMC-700’s WiFi compatibility allow it to wirelessly play back content from PCs, laptops and audio files stored on hard drives. Even without the computer powered on, the Rhapsody online music service and Internet radio can be accessed directly from the Internet. YMC-700 can also playback iTunes AAC files via TwonkyMedia Server Software that purchasers have access to via a bundled license key.

Both models also allow connectivity to portable devices, such as USB memory sticks, as well as iPods and Bluetooth-enabled devices (including cell phones, PCs or Macs) via optional accessories (Yamaha YDS-11, MSRP $99.95, and Yamaha YBA-10, MSRP $129.95, respectively).

neoHD employs several proprietary audio technologies. Users can take advantage of Yamaha’s popular Cinema DSP programs, such as Movie, Music, Entertainment and All Channel Stereo, to optimize movie, TV and sports viewing experiences in systems with 5.1 speaker configurations. Yamaha’s AIR SURROUND XTREME technology adds extra system setup flexibility for a two-speaker stereo configuration, delivering surround sound that clearly separates the audio from in front, behind and either side of the viewer. Yamaha’s YPAO Automatic System Calibration quickly optimizes audio performance in any room, regardless of where the speakers are placed.

Adaptive DRC maintains the maximum dynamic range at all volume levels by continuously monitoring audio content and making low-volume sounds easier to hear as music or movies are playing. Yamaha’s Compressed Music Enhancer restores the highs and lows that are lost when audio files are digitally compressed, such as with MP3 files, to make them sound fuller and more engaging.

Both neoHD Media Controllers, YMC-700 and YMC-500, are currently available for MRP $799.95 and $599.95, respectively. The neoHD System 2.1, YMC-S21 is also available for MRP $799.95.

Yamaha MusicCAST2 digital audio streamer

Yamaha may be better known for its AV receivers and home theater systems, but the company was one of the early entrants in the digital-audio-receiver category, with audiophile-centric products like the Yamaha MCX-1000 MusicCast server. MusicCAST 2 is the second iteration of Yamaha’s digital-audio-streaming platform, and it enters a product category that is now much more mature, with several recommendable products such as the Sonos BU150, Logitech Squeezebox Duet, and Apple TV.

Yamaha’s new iPod accessories.

(PDX50 wireless dock)

Yamaha, the manufacture of pro audio gear: mixers, processors, power amplifiers, and speakers has introduced a range of new audio accessories for the iPod.

Top-end sound quality and instant wireless remote control were singled out as customer priorities says Yamaha when the company set up a dedicated R&D department in 2006.

The first fruits of this development are a range of four new iPod specific audio products. The PDX50 heads up the range, the first product to feature what Yamaha calls a unique ‘Air-Wired’ technology that, unlike other wireless iPod audio systems, promises to deliver lossless uncompressed data.

No pairing is necessary with the ‘dock less’ PDX50 explains Yamaha; you just activate your iPod to establish a wireless connection. A remote control is provided via a small wireless transmitter that attaches to the iPod.

Billed as a compact and lightweight speaker system, the PDX50 is powered by a newly designed digital amplifier and comes with a wooden cabinet that allows the sound to vibrate more efficiently says Yamaha.

The PDX30 meanwhile features an iPod dock atop the unit, both the PDX50 and PDX30 comes in a variety of colours including black, blue, gray and for the adventurous pink.

The PDX50 is priced at £199, while the PDX30 costs £129.
