I remember a period in ‘07 when i was wandering around the hifi stores looking for a pair of speakers for my unison research unico. I finally made my decision but suddenly everything changed when I saw this beauty on the shelf. The astounding design caught my eye… and after a while it was the smooth and relaxed sound that caught my ears. I stayed 2 hours in the store just to listen, and the next day i decided to sell the unico and buy the l21. Of course I had to start again my ’speaker-odyssey’…!
The small Primare is a bargain. I know there are classy amps out there, especially if someone has thousands of $ to spend. I also know a couple of danish brands that offer -with less than 2000$- better (’meaty’ in my opinion) bass. Good desicion for those who want to get a tree and lose the rest of the forest…
Primare’s bass is dynamic, ebullient and more than enough for me. Even with prog rock loads like tool and osi or electronic and techno music, l21 does a great job.
Mids are sweet, highs are smooth, and the overall is a well-balanced and delicate sound with good soundstage. You can listen to your favourite (or any other kind of) music for many hours. You ‘ll never get tired and your ears will never bleed. Contrariwise!
I suggest to use this amp with a good pair of bookshelf speakers in a room up to 20 square meters. l21 has enough power to drive floorstanders but I’ve changed 3 pairs of speakers and audition with many more. I believe that the combo with bookshelf speakers is much better.
What I don’t like… 1. The cheap remote. It doesn’t match with the elegant looks of this amp (I can’t imagine those who pay the double for the 30.2 and get this plastic thing for remote). Also had problems using it (sometimes by pressing volume + or - and the amp shuts down…or changes the line! ?inexplicable…).
2. It takes almost an hour to warm up (30 minutes from the -less ecologic- standby mode).
