Marantz CR502 Everything In One Place - Nice

February 24th, 2009 by adam

Stuff.tv just put up a nice little piece of equipment that would probably be a great starter for anyone looking to get into mid-fi with out buying 3 different types of equipment and worrying about matching and sound. The CR502 plays CD, super audio CD, mp3 cd, ipod (USB connector on the back) and have 2×25 Watt amplifier. Pair this with some nice bookshelf speakers and you’d have a sweet little set up. The CR502 also has FM and Digital Radio tuners. (Do people still listen to the radio? For music that is.) If they could get this plugged into the net and hooked up with Pandora Marantz would have hit the sweet spot with me.

- audioreview

Fronting up for loads of separates is hardly wise in these financially frisky times. So instead, bagging yourself an all–in–one system is definitely the smart way forward. And this new Marantz CR502 is our pick of all the latest goodies to cross our desks.

read the rest, and look forward to Stuff’s review….

Blu Ray, Not Doing Well, Go Figure

February 24th, 2009 by adam

It seems that plasma is on it’s last leg and Blu-Ray my be there soon as well. With Blu-Ray movies costing a good penny more none of my first by them, even thought they have Playstation consoles and nice HDTVs. It isn’t surprising to me that this media my take a bow in the future to cheaper, maybe not so high quality competitors. An inside expert says “If PS3 sales go up, with people choosing to stay in rather than go out in our failing economy, it may be the life preserver Blu-Ray needs. Of course, dropping the strangle hold of a markup on Blu Ray media wouldn’t hurt either.”

-audioreview

NEW YORK — As the economic storm clouds grow darker, consumer electronics manufacturers are looking at a handful of growth categories — including Blu-ray Disc players — to hedge the industry’s bets, but one major retailer told TWICE that he fears the category is still not the slam-dunk some perceive it to be.Some manufacturers believe the economy could actually have a positive impact on the fledgling Blu-ray category this year. As consumers hunker down in their homes and avoid expensive nights out, they can become more willing to spend to upgrade their entertainment experience at home.

“We’re still in agreement with CEA’s estimates that Blu-ray decks have the potential to double this year to roughly 5.7 million units,” said Tim Alessi, LG Electronics product development director, who said he sees the cocooning encouraging that adoption. “Also, a new category of Blu-ray-based home theater has begun to emerge which will also add to the installed base. We believe that providing home-entertainment options will be a key to growth.”

Similar to the CEA, market research firm FutureSource Consulting is predicting U.S. stand-alone Blu-ray Disc player sales at 6 million in 2009, up from 2.5 million in 2008. At the same time, sales of Blu-ray-enabled PlayStation3 consoles are forecast to rise from 3 million in 2008 to 5 million in 2009. By 2012, the research firm sees the PS3 in more than 50 percent of U.S. homes and stand-alone BD players in 20 percent.

More Cuts: Magnolia Audio Video to lay off 184

February 18th, 2009 by adam

The economy is turning into a sad state of affairs. If you have some cash now is the time to stimulate! Most of you out there will have your job in for a long while to come. Especially those in the designated stimulus areas. So don’t hoard everybody else tax dollars. Spend and get our economy going again.

-AudioReview

By DAN RICHMAN
P-I REPORTER

Magnolia Audio Video said Thursday that it will lay off roughly half its employees, close its corporate headquarters and distribution center in Kent, and shut down seven West Coast retail stores.

In total, 184 jobs will be eliminated from a 345-person work force, spokeswoman Sue Busch Nehring said.

The cuts will be completed by the end of the month, she said. All 82 jobs in Kent will be eliminated, as will about 100 in the seven stores being closed, two of which are in the Seattle area.

The company’s other six stores, all of them on the West Coast, will remain open. Of those, one is in Bellevue and one is in the Roosevelt neighborhood. Also remaining open will be the Roosevelt Design Center in Seattle and all 350 Magnolia Home Theater locations within Best Buy Stores across the U.S.

Napster to Source Tunes on Your Squeezebox

February 17th, 2009 by adam

Arlen Schweiger at ElectronicHouse.com is reporting that you will be able to use Napster as a source for your Logictech Squeezebox. It seems so strange to think about a once pirate P2P music source has become so main stream. I have a deep secrete hope that Napster will someday supplant iTunes as the worlds largest online music service. Back to it’s rightful place. That and I loath iTunes and my iPod. Yes, though I still own one. Good luck Napster!  I just hope she isn’t the DJ.

Popular Blu-Ray Players Reviews and Hot Price Deals

February 11th, 2009 by adam

How to Choose a Blu-ray Player:

Sony PlayStation 3
Everything Else
Pros - Best value for a Blu-ray/DVD player as well as a gaming console and streaming content
Cons - Lack of analog multichannel outputs or IR receptors
Pros - Can have analog multichannel outputs and IR receptors and support high quality audio options like Dolby TrueHD lossless format
Cons -Not nearly a multifunctional as a PS3

Choosing a Blu-ray player is fairly straight forward. All player support Dolby Digital, DTS, and linear PCM formats that offer exceptional video and audio quality. Of course, image quality will be relative to your television’s maximum resolution. Really, unless you are a hi-fi fanatic, the hardest choice for you to make is choosing between a stand alone unit or a Sony PS3. Which isn’t really a hard choice when you thinking about it.

Stand alone units give home theater enthusiast more analog multichannel outputs as well as higher quality lossless sound choices for distinguishing audiophiles. If you don’t have a audio system that cost as much as a small car, then the PS3 really is the best way to go.

The PS3 does everything a stand alone unit will do as well as play games and connect to the internet for streaming media. Since most stand alone units and the PS3 cost about the same amount of money, unless you really want true hi-fi quality sound that the PS3 does not provide, it is hands down the best option.

Experts may all agree on the advantages or shortcomings of any product they review but, at AudioReview.com, we believe that the average consumer can best summarize all the details a product has to offer… So read what users have to says!
